Restore the health of your teeth and the appearance of your smile with quality dental crowns in Rochester MI

Teeth Crowns in Rochester MI area

Every natural, healthy tooth has a crown. It’s the part of the tooth that’s visible above the gumline. Made up of enamel and dentin, the crown provides strength. So, teeth withstand the forces placed on them from chewing and other functions. Crowns also protect the teeth from the heat and cold. While natural tooth enamel is stronger than skeletal bone, it’s not impervious to damage from decay-producing bacteria and trauma. Damaged teeth crowns in Rochester MI may be replicated by John L. Aurelia, DDS, PLLC in such a way that they’re indistinguishable in form and function from natural crowns.

When only a crown will do

A common type of dental restoration, dental crowns are made from a wide variety of materials. Once they’re made expertly by our local lab partners, and placed by Drs John Aurelia or Dina Khoury, crowns can restore decayed or damaged teeth to healthy appearance and function in a number of different ways, including to:

  • Treat an area of decay (or cavity) that is too large to be properly restored with a simple filling
  • Replace a filling that is too large or worn to adequately support the tooth
  • Hold pieces of a cracked or fractured tooth together
  • Seal off and protect a deeply decayed tooth that is treated with root canal therapy

When placed over prepared tooth structure, crowns may also be used to alter the appearance of a poorly shaped or deeply discolored tooth. You can’t have many types of tooth replacement without crowns; for instance, crowns are placed to support the pontic or replacement tooth in a dental bridge. Crowns are also the “finishing touch” of the dental implants process, stabilized in the mouth by underlying root-like implants placed in the jaw.

When alternatives can restore your smile

John L. Aurelia, DDS, PLLC patients deserve options! At other practices, patients with damaged teeth may have one or two types of restorations to choose from: fillings or crowns. Drs Aurelia and Khoury offer inlays and onlays as a “middle-ground” option. They’re a conservative alternative to full-coverage crowns, and a more extensive alternative to simple fillings.

The material used to make inlays and onlays covers the areas of decay. So, the restorations fit into the damaged spaces like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Inlays are appropriate for teeth with modest damage, as they only cover the grooves between the cusps or points of the teeth, whereas onlays cover the grooves or chewing surfaces as well as at least one cusp to treat extensive damage.

Get ready to flaunt your healthy, beautiful smile!

The crowns process generally involves our dentists evaluating your mouth and discussing your preferences for tooth restoration or replacement with you. If you are a great candidate for a crown, information is collected about your teeth via imaging and other technologies, and a model of the teeth to be treated is made.

This information is sent to our local, quality lab partner (we don’t use questionable overseas labs!). Skilled lab technicians craft crowns from a material of your choice. The natural tooth structure is prepared to “accept” the crown. A temporary crown is placed to protect the treatment site, while you wait for the permanent crown.

Once the crown is made, your dentist checks that it fits comfortably and properly, and that you are satisfied with how it looks before bonding it permanently to remaining natural tooth structure. Patients love that their crowned teeth keep going strong, year after year, with no special maintenance or costly products – just good home hygiene and routine visits to John L. Aurelia, DDS, PLLC. Terrible experience. I booked an appointment back in August for October 30 (first available). Not a big deal at all. I never received a confirmation call for my appointment which I thought was odd but still made the 30 minute drive to this highly rated offed to be told they didn’t have my appointment in part of their system but did have record of it on another part of the system. They told me I could wait and see if the next appointment didn’t show up, but the staff made it seem like it was my fault for showing up to an appointment where I didn’t get a confirmation call for. Nevertheless, I did have a text confirmation from when I scheduled the appointment months ago. Very disorganized office. Don’t waste your time. I’m sure the dentists themselves are wonderful but the office staff makes this place an office to avoid.
