Rochester, MI patients love the ease, versatility of dental bonding treatment

Dental bonding treatment in Rochester, MI, at the office of John L. Aurelia, DDS, has the potential to enhance the health of your smile. When durable dental material is prepared and applied to replace damaged natural tooth enamel, the gaps that are covered up no longer collect food debris, which makes it easier to keep your teeth clean and less vulnerable to decay and gum disease. Likewise, chips or other surface imperfections can weaken the structure of your teeth, making them more susceptible to breakage. That said, bonding is often an elective, cosmetic procedure.

Drs John Aurelia and Dina Khoury artfully match the composite resin to the shade of your teeth and shape the material to camouflage stubborn discoloration, cracks, poorly shaped, worn, and unevenly spaced teeth. It can be just the boost you need to feel more confident about yourself. Patients walk a little taller when they love the reflection looking back at them in the mirror. Drs Aurelia and Khoury see time and again how patients are inspired to take better care of their improved teeth. They want to keep their smile stain-free and free of flaws that can reverse all the positives that resulted from bonding treatment. With the usual brushing, flossing, and visits to John L. Aurelia, DDS, treated teeth remain healthy and stunning.

Know your options

Dental bonding is also known as “direct veneers.” Drs Aurelia and Khoury design and place their counterpart: indirect veneers. Made from thin layers of dental porcelain indirect veneers are crafted by talented ceramists at our partner lab. Once the veneers are ready, they are bonded securely to the surface of the teeth. To make room for the veneer, each treated tooth must be slightly reduced.

As their name suggests, direct veneers are applied, shaped, and bonded directly to the surface of teeth in a single visit. No enamel is removed. So, this type of veneer is considered to be a reversible procedure. It is also fast, cost-effective, and well-tolerated (no risk of sensitivity).

Indirect or porcelain veneers require at least two visits. Tooth sensitivity is minimized as a small amount of natural enamel is removed to accommodate the porcelain layers. Indirect veneers are popular, because the porcelain, when in skilled hands, perfectly replicates natural, healthy tooth structure. The porcelain is also considered to be stain-resistant and strong.

With either type of veneer, our dentists take great care to assure the option is what is best for you. They account for habits that can be damaging to treated teeth, just as they are destructive to natural teeth; for instance, people who grind their teeth will need to wear night-guards to protect the dental resin or ceramic. Behavior such as biting fingernails or chomping on ice must also be addressed. Additionally, if you have active gum disease or other oral health conditions, these problems must be resolved first. Alternate treatments may be recommended, too. As an example, patients with crowding or other alignment issues may benefit from Invisalign.
